The melt flow test method is used to measure the rate at which a polymer of that material melts and flows under specified conditions. This quality test is used to determine the melt flow index (MFI) of polymers along with improving manufacturing processes and checking product quality.

It consists of a high-quality interchangeable jet and a heated extruder tube made of carbon steel, the assembly being mounted on a metal box. Which surrounds its outer circumference which is heated through the bend heater at the time of testing. Through which the material during testing is taken out very easily. Also, there is a piston with dead weight which is used to create specified pressure on the material inside the extruder tube.

A PID controller is provided to indicate and control the tube temperature in the Asian Melt Flow Index. The heater used in this is filled with mineral wool insulation. At the bottom of the tube, an insulation of PTFE is used to prevent the extruder from sticking. The job of the extruder is to push the jet out. It is placed below the extruder tube in the equipment. Which is very hard because it is made from ground-die steel. A piston made of silver steel is provided at its upper end to push the material out of the jet in the apparatus. This piston goes inside the cavity of the tube.

This device uses a sleeve to direct the relief part of the piston. There is a plate form on top of the piston which holds the weight and also thermally insulates the load.
